Now you can produce a better looking study model, at less expense, in a fraction of the time - than any other system! Whitlab Redi-Bases are used to professionally mount and display your patients' casts.
1. Make complete upper and lower impressions, making sure the impressions extend well out into the mucobuccal fold.

Pour the impressions in white plaster or stone or a mixture thereof. Do not build too high. When the cast is completely hard, carefully separate it from the impression tray. Trim the cast so that it will fit in the proper size Redi-Base.
2. Soak the casts in water to prevent separation from the plaster. Place the lower cast on the positioner.

Use elastic bands to hold it in position with the incisal edge of the incisors and occlusal surface of the last erupted molar against the underside of the positioner. (Any retromolar extension will extend beyond and above the positioner plate.) Align the midline of the cast and the positioner.
3. Fill in the lower Redi-Base with a smooth mix of plaster. Make sure the mid-line on the Redi-Base and the cast and the positioner line up when pressing the model and positioner down until the legs of the positioner are in contact with the countertop. This automatically regulates the height of the lower and parallels the occlusal plane with the bottom of the Redi-Base.

When the plaster is partly set the elastics may be cut. They will readily pull out of the plaster. Cut off excess plaster with a laboratory knife or wet Q-tip and smooth with a moistened finger. This will cover the tiny holes left by the elastics. Allow the plaster to harden thoroughly. The lower model is now finished except for polishing.
4. Articulate the upper cast with the lower model. Place elastic bands around the models or use sticky wax for correct occlusion. (A wax bite may be used, if desired.)

5. The groove in the back of the Redi-Base should be centered on the track of the relator as shown in the illustration above. Fill the upper Redi-Base with a fairly stiff mixture of plaster. The plaster should be thick enough not to run. Slide the upper Redi-Base over the upper cast to the desired height. The scale on the top side of the relator makes it possible to make a set of models from two and a quarter to three inches in height.

When the plaster is partly hardened, cut the elastics and remove them from the plaster. Trim with a plaster knife or wet Q-tip in order to remove excess plaster and smooth with a wet finger. Allow the plaster to set thoroughly.
6. After the plaster has dried thoroughly, the finished models can be soaked in a soap solution and polished in the usual manner. (It is suggested that when a standard height has been decided on, that all models be made the same height.)
